Canon XL1s and FD Lenses

Has anyone ever used an FD lens on a Canon XL1s?
I know you need an adaptor but do you get any better results with a FD lens plus adaptor than you would by using an EF lens plus XL to EF adaptor?
I want to use a macro lens on my Canon XL1s and have both a FD and EF one!
